What is a programme recovery review?

A programme recovery review is an independent review of one stalled or failing IT project, completed in 3 weeks, with a written recommendation to continue, reset or stop. We interview 10 to 15 people, check the running system against the status reports and present the recovery plan to your board. If you want a smaller first step, the Project Health Check takes 5 working days.

Sound familiar?

  • Go-live has moved twice, and nobody will commit to a new date.
  • The supplier reports green. Finance still closes the month in spreadsheets.
  • The budget is gone and less than half the scope works.
  • Your board asks whether to carry on or stop, and nobody can answer with facts.
  • There are plenty of meetings, but decisions stay on the table.
  • The supplier and your own team work past each other, and each points at the other.

Who it is for, and who it is not for

Who it is for

The sponsor, director or board member accountable for one IT programme that has stalled: an ERP rollout or another system, with its own supplier or implementation partner. You want a decision you can defend with facts, and a plan that stays in your hands.

Not for

A review of all of your IT: that is the IT audit. A programme that is running and where the board wants oversight: that is programme assurance. Legal advice on your supplier contract we leave to a lawyer.

Three weeks

Scope, timeline and price are fixed before we start.

Week 1

Read

We go through contracts, plans, budgets and status reports, and interview 10 to 15 people: the sponsor, key users, the supplier and the implementation partner.

Week 2

Test

We check the running system against what the reports claim, and estimate the work that is left.

Week 3

Decide

You get the recovery plan, and we present it to your board.

What you get

Three scenarios

Continue, reset or stop, each with cost, timeline and risk.

A costed recovery plan

For the scenario you choose, with milestones you can check.

A board session

We present the findings and answer your board's questions.

How we agree it

What we need from you

Access to contracts, plans and reports, and time from 10 to 15 people for an interview. In week 3, a slot with your board.

Who does the work

One senior lead, joined by a specialist when the system calls for it. We select and manage that specialist ourselves.

What is fixed

Scope, a 3-week timeline and a fixed price, in the proposal before we start.

The plan is yours. Carry it out with us, with your current supplier or with someone else. If we could do follow-on work ourselves, we say so in writing, so you can weigh the advice for what it is.

Project Health Check: 5 working days

Where your project stands and what to do next. The smaller first step for one project: €4,950 fixed price, excluding VAT.

Who it is for

You want a smaller first step for one project before commissioning a 3-week review. Or you want to know quickly whether a full review is needed at all. It is also the first step after a red or amber result on the free IT quick scan.

What you get

A short written view of the main delivery risks, the gaps in the evidence and the open questions, immediate actions with an owner, and a session with the sponsor on whether a full review is needed.

How it works

Mostly remote, on site where needed. We interview up to 6 people and read the key project documents. The 5 working days start once we have access to documents, the system and people; without access the work cannot start.

What happens next

If you continue with a Programme Recovery Review within 30 days, the €4,950 is credited against the review fee. If it stops at the Health Check, you have an independent view of where your project stands.

Frequently asked questions

Is the review only for ERP projects?

No. We look at the programme, the plan, the supplier and the budget. That works for any stalled IT project.

How does the Recovery Review differ from the IT audit and programme assurance?

The Recovery Review is about one stalled project, with the Project Health Check as the smaller first step. The IT audit reviews all of your IT: systems, data flows, suppliers, security and costs, with a priority plan and not an audit opinion. Programme assurance follows a running programme: a monthly review and a written report for the board.

Can it be smaller?

Yes. The Project Health Check takes 5 working days and answers two questions: where your project stands and what to do next. If you continue with the Recovery Review within 30 days, the Health Check fee is credited.

What if the recommendation is to stop?

Then that is what the recovery plan says, with the cost, timeline and risk of stopping set beside those of continuing and resetting. You get all three scenarios, even when the answer is uncomfortable. If we could do follow-on work ourselves, we say so in writing.

What happens after the review?

You choose a scenario. Programme assurance can then follow the recovery, or an interim recovery lead runs the programme. Either can be done with LogicX, with your current supplier or with someone else.
